Dr. Joseph Capalong, DDS passed away after a brief illness on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at his home in Dunmore.
He was born in Scranton on February 19, 1953, and was the son of the late Frances and Andrew (Barney) Capalong. Joseph graduated from Scranton Technical High School where he was elected Senior Class President. As he pursued higher education, Joseph earned degrees from Keystone College, the University of Scranton and Temple University Kornberg School of Dentistry. At Temple he distinguished himself by graduating Magna Cum Laude and receiving additional accolades for academic excellence. He maintained a private dental practice in Dunmore for the past 40 years. Joseph was affectionately nicknamed “THE SMILE DOCTOR” by his patients and friends. In his spare time, he enjoyed boating, flying his drones and remote control airplanes, as well as going on motorcycle rides with his brother. Joseph also enjoyed hanging out in his “MAN CAVE” with friends often discussing world affairs.
He is survived by sisters Nicoletta Palmarozza, Frani Thomas and husband Ed, a brother Andrew A. Capalong and wife Gail. His nieces Antoinette Palmarozza, Danielle Capwell (Rachel) and nephews Peter Palmarozza (Laura), Robert Capwell (Lisa), and Andrew J. Capalong. In addition, Joseph leaves behind a grandniece Chloe Capwell, a grandnephew Jacob Capwell and many treasured friends. A special thank you to Frank Gilette for his unwavering friendship.
Joseph was preceded in death by a sister, Rose Ann Capalong.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
